Guide to Hong Kong's must see places on a vacation

Updated: Jun 2, 2021

I have a special affinity for this city, for having lived here for so long it's a city that's grown to me slowly. Hong Kong is truly a city for the spirit to rejoice. Being one of the worlds busiest business centers, it has a lot to offer to both its residents as well as the expats living here. From nightlife, to shopping, to fashion to food, you name it and HK has it. The cultural mix of people is a welcome sight with lots to look forward to. If Asia is on your list, your journey should definitely begin from Hong Kong.

Must See places in Hong Kong-

1. Ngong Ping 360 and Ngong Ping Village

The Big Buddha of Hong Kong is one of the best attractions for tourists. The cable car ride to the top is a must as it offers excellent panoramic view of the lush green hills and sea from mid air. The journey can also be covered by a bus which goes up in case you are not a person for heights but I would totally recommend the cable ride. Get there early because the queue can be long if its constantly moving. Once there you get to see the Big Buddha, Po Lin Monastery, Tai O Fishing Village (Ngong Ping Village).

Location- Lantau Island, Hong Kong

Getting there- Tung Chung MTR Station Exit B (10 min walk from there), Shun Tung Road Bus Station (10 min walk from there).

2. Victoria Peak- The Peak and Peak Tram

The Peak is the literally the eye of Hong Kong, the highest altitude peak in the city it offers breath taking views of the famous Hong Kong skyline. It's a treat both, during the day and night time (but personally I prefer the night view). The Peak Tram is an iconic tram ride with an incline that makes your body go heavy due to the gravity pull, this is a great experience for all to kids and elders both.

3. Hong Kong Disneyland

Opened in 2003, this is a true family attraction. It is definitely grown much more than what it started off as and has truly become a spectacle for kids and grown ups alike. This Disneyland is much cheaper compared to the others. It may not be as grand as the other but for what it's worth it definitely gives you the thrills, chills, smiles and happily ever after ending as you leave. It completely takes one full day to roam about thoroughly so be prepared to walk and wait in line for the rides.

Location- Penny's Bay, Lantau Island, Hong Kong

Getting There- Transfer to the Tsing Yi Station on the Tung Chung Line and then transfer to Sunny Bay Station which would take you there directly.

4. Star Ferry Cruise

This HK$ 2 ride is an absolute must to capture the iconic skyline of Hong Kong. It's an age old ferry carrying passengers between Hong Kong island and Kowloon island. Started since 1888, this charming ferry is a beautiful sight against the tall, glass sky high buildings adjacent it. Luckily not much has changed in the look of this ferry, giving it the classic old world charm. This is definitely a must for all.

Location and Getting there- TST Star Ferry pier: MTR Tsim Sha Tsui Station, Exit L6. Walk to the Clock Tower along Salisbury Road; or, Central Star Ferry pier: MTR Hong Kong Station, Exit A2 or MTR Central Station, Exit A. Walk to the pier along Man Yiu Street.

5. Ocean Park

This is by far one of the best theme parks I have been to in a while. A contributing factor could also be our love for animals and everything related to their conservation. The park has been made to give the visitors a great experience of not only viewing exotic animals of different regions but also learn more about their habitat. Emphasizing on conservation this theme park is definitely worth more than a one time visit.

Location- Wong Chuk Hang, Hong Kong Island, Hong Kong

Getting there- Change to South Island Line from Central to get off at Ocean Park MTR station.
